Soar with the Eagles Golf Tournament

Soar With The Eagles Golf Tournament Entry Form (pdf)

The “Soar With the Eagles” golf tournament was established in the first year of our Christian music festivals and is an important part of our history.

In 1999, when all of the artists had gone on to their next concert; when all of the seats were empty; when all of the cars had left the parking lot, the stage had been swept and the dressing rooms had been cleaned, we were thousands of dollars in debt.  Even after receiving enormous contributions from the Lake of the Ozarks Tri-County Lodging Association, we were still faced with $10,400.00 in unpaid bills.

Central Bank of Lake of the Ozarks loaned us the full amount to cover all of the bills based solely on our promise that we would make every effort to pay it back. Almost immediately, the Lake of the Ozarks Golf Council stepped forward and offered to organize a fund raising golf tournament.  With their help, we were able to pay off the note within three years.  Since then, the tournament has raised around $5,000, annually, and the funds have been used to underwrite our festivals.

The name of the tournament is tied both to golf and to the Bible.  Golfers will tell you that an Eagle is a term that defines two strokes under par on any given hole.  How does it relate to the Bible?  As you might have guessed, it’s tied to Isaiah 41:10, “They that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength.  They shall rise up on Wings of Eagles.  They shall run and not faint.  They shall walk and not be weary.”

This scripture has not only given credence to the golf tournament, it defines the journey of those who have dedicated themselves to bringing Christian music concerts to the Lake of the Ozarks.  Many times, we have been reminded of the fact that God does not give us tasks that we can do by ourselves.  His tasks are those which involve Him, as well.

Everyone is welcome to participate in this great tournament.  The 2010 Soar With The Eagles Golf Tournament is scheduled for Thursday, October 7, at Dogwood Hills Resort and Country Club.  For more information about bringing a team, or playing as an individual, call 888.285.7464 or 573.348.3028.  Prizes will include rounds of golf at all of the major Lake of the Ozarks golf courses.
